You do not need to carry the whole mountain at once.

Sometimes there isn’t one obvious problem. There are twelve. When everything feels important, it can be hard to know where to begin.

You do not have to put your whole life in order before you ask God for help. Begin with one thing.

Scripture to Read

From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 61:2— NASB 2020

The psalmist calls to God from a place of weakness and asks to be led to a rock higher than himself. He does not present strength as a condition for being heard.

You can pray from the place you are in. Name what exceeds your strength and ask God for help with the next part of the day. You do not need to make the burden sound smaller than it is.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30— NASB 2020

Jesus invites weary and burdened people to come to Him, take His yoke and learn from Him. His rest is connected to His gentle character and to following Him, rather than to having no responsibilities.

Ask what it would mean to bring this day to Him instead of carrying it as though everything depends on you. Learning His way can include receiving care, accepting a limit and taking one faithful step at a time.

God is our refuge and strength,
A very ready help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth shakes
And the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;

Psalm 46:1–2— NASB 2020

Psalm 46 describes God as refuge and strength even when the world feels unstable. Its confidence rests in God’s help, not in a promise that the ground will never shake.

When your list feels larger than your ability to cope, begin with that truth. You can seek refuge in God while deciding which concern needs action now and which can remain on the page until later.

What This Means for You

Overwhelm can make a full list feel like one enormous emergency. Some concerns may be urgent. Others may be important but able to wait.

Psalm 61 gives words to a heart that cannot manage on its own. Matthew 11 brings the burdened reader toward Jesus and His way of rest. Psalm 46 speaks of God as refuge amid instability.

Rest does not mean that responsibilities disappear. It can mean stopping long enough to see them clearly, accepting a limit or letting someone share the load.

You can take one responsible step without promising to finish everything. A task on paper can wait there while you attend to the next thing.

DO THIS RIGHT NOW

Write down everything currently occupying your mind. Do not organize the list yet.

Mark anything involving immediate safety or an essential need that cannot wait.

Then circle one thing that genuinely needs attention today.

Make the first step smaller: find a number, send a necessary message, gather a document or begin one task.

Leave the rest on the page. You can return to it without rehearsing the whole list.

What to Do Next

  1. Read one of the passages above, slowly enough to notice what it says about God’s care.
  2. Choose one task to postpone, simplify or ask someone to share. Be specific about the help you need.
  3. Create a stopping point for the task you begin. Doing one part is still progress.
  4. Make room for basic care such as food, water and rest. If overwhelm persists or interferes significantly with daily life, seek qualified professional support alongside spiritual care.

A Prayer for This Moment

God, everything feels like too much right now.

I cannot hold all of this at once.

Help me come to You with the burden instead of hiding it.

Remind me that You are my refuge and strength.

Show me what genuinely needs attention today.

Give me courage to ask for help and patience with my limits.

Help me leave the rest for later and take one faithful step.

Amen.
