You are more than the number in your bank account.
When bills are waiting and money is short, it can be hard to think about anything else.
Money problems may require real decisions and difficult changes, but they do not determine your value before God. Begin with what needs attention today.

Scripture to Read
Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Jesus speaks about ordinary needs—food, drink and clothing—and reminds His listeners that their heavenly Father knows what they need. He calls them to seek God’s kingdom rather than allowing fear about tomorrow to govern today.
This is not permission to ignore a bill or avoid planning. Bring the pressure to God, then ask which responsible action belongs to today. You do not have to rehearse every future shortage before taking that step.
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER ABANDON YOU,”
Hebrews connects freedom from the love of money and contentment with the assurance of God’s presence. The security at the centre of the passage is that God will not abandon His people.
Contentment does not mean pretending that a genuine need has been met. You can face the numbers honestly, ask for practical help and resist the thought that financial difficulty makes you less worthy of care.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Paul writes these words while thanking believers who have shared generously with him. The promise of God’s provision sits within a relationship of faith, giving and mutual care, rather than a formula for personal wealth.
Look toward God without using the passage to guarantee a particular payment or outcome. Receiving help from others and taking responsible action can belong alongside trust in His provision.
What This Means for You
Financial stress often mixes a real shortage with fear about what the shortage means. You may need help, a difficult conversation or a change of plan. None of those things makes you less valuable.
In Matthew 6, Jesus addresses everyday needs and the burden of tomorrow. Hebrews connects contentment with God’s presence. Philippians speaks of provision in the context of a community that has shared generously.
These passages are not a promise of instant wealth or a reason to ignore a bill. They invite trust without pretending that circumstances are easy.
Start with what is known. An actual amount, a due date and one conversation give you something concrete to work with. Asking for help is compatible with responsible action.
DO THIS RIGHT NOW
Take one sheet of paper and write down three things:
Money available now.
Bills due in the next seven days.
Essential needs in the next seven days.
Do not judge the numbers. Check them against your statements where you can.
Choose one next action: clarify an amount, ask about an approaching payment, or identify where to request practical support.
What to Do Next
- Keep due dates and contact details together so you do not have to hold them in your head.
- If you expect difficulty making a payment, contact the provider or creditor promptly. Ask what options are available and what each option would cost; do not assume an arrangement has been agreed.
- Tell one trustworthy person that you are under financial pressure. You can ask for help organizing information without sharing every detail.
- For debt decisions you cannot assess confidently, seek reputable, qualified guidance and check any fees before agreeing to a service. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada has free information about managing debt.
A Prayer for This Moment
God, money is weighing heavily on me.
Help me face what is real without letting panic lead.
Remind me that You have not abandoned me.
Give me wisdom to use what I have responsibly.
Keep shame from making me hide.
Help me ask for sound guidance and accept practical care.
Give me patience for the work ahead and strength for today’s next step.
Amen.
